Civil Engineer specialized in Hydraulics
Master's of Environmental Engineering with a Diploma in Socio-Environmental Management

Miguel Alemán is the General Manager and Technical Director of Cardno Latinoamérica in Quito, the regional office for Latin America and the Caribbean since 2001. With more than 31 years of experience, Engr. Alemán has led and participated in more than 200 environmental projects, including studies and the provision of socio-environmental services such as monitoring, socio-environmental consulting and project management in the oil and gas, industry, mining, irrigation, energy and urban infrastructure sectors, and has published several technical documents for a series of seminars and symposiums at the national and international level. In 2008 and 2009, he received the "Bizz Award" and the "Summit of Success" medal – recognizing his leadership in Business Management by the World Confederation of Businesses. Today, he is a Registered Professional Engineer practicing in Ecuador and Peru.

Civil Engineer specialized in Structures

Tarquino Caballero is a Civil Engineer specialized in structures, with 35 years of experience in the area of engineering, building construction, industrial plants, aqueducts, gas and oil pipelines, water treatment plants and transmission lines for electricity and communication. As the Director of the Energy and Urban Development at Cardno Engineering, Engr. Caballero is in charge of planning, coordinating, supporting, monitoring and evaluating projects in the fields of hydroelectric power, hydrocarbons, and urban development. The most important projects in which he has participated include: The Design and Construction of the Heavy Crude Oil Pipeline-OCP (2001-2005); Gas Separation Plant GOSP-3; HARADH - Saudi Arabia (2006); and the Khursaniyah Downstream and Upstream Pipelines, Saudi Arabia (2007); and the coordination of hydroelectric projects such as Baba 42MW, Ocaña 26MW, Sopladora 486MW, Minas San Francisco 275MW and Toachi Pilatón 270 MW (2008 to date).

Geographical and Environmental Engineer

María del Pilar Herrera has 13 years of experience in the provision of environmental consulting services and in the execution of projects in the hydrocarbon, mining, electrical and industrial sectors. Engr. Herrera is a specialist in the design and implementation of graphic and alphanumeric databases for the management of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), as well as in the generation of base and thematic cartography, the interpretation of satellite images and aerial photography, topographic surveys, and the implementation of Response Planning Systems for Oil Spills based on GIS systems.

Mechanical Engineer specialized in Tubing and Static Equipment

Héctor Mejía is a Mechanical Engineer with training in the area of Tubing and Static Equipment with more than 17 years of experience in the area of engineering. Engr. Mejía has developed projects in Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, USA, Italy, France and in the Caribbean islands, such as St. Kitts, Grenada and St. VIncent. The main types of projects in which he has participated include industrial plants, aqueducts, oil and gas pipelines, refineries, crude processing stations, production platforms, among others. As Project Manager in the Energy and Urban Development Unit at Cardno Engineering, Engr. Mejía is in charge of developing the project execution plan, coordinates and manages work groups, and also, monitors and manages the risks or conflicts that may arise in the various phases of a project.


Gustavo Rodríguez is an economist with more than 25 years of experience in research and consulting in the social, economic and environmental spheres, and is a specialist in the analysis, management and resolution of socio-environmental conflicts, negotiations, and community management in the context of social responsibility. In these areas he has developed several studies and projects of research and development in urban and rural areas, and has carried out social perception studies and stakeholder mapping and engagement processes, particularly in the Amazon region. Apart from his extensive work in the private sector, Mr. Rodriguez has also collaborated with universities in North Carolina, Tulane and Washington University, as well as with national institutions such as CEPAR and ECOCIENCIA.

Environmental Engineer and Biologist

Santiago Ribadeneira coordinates multidisciplinary teams of technicians, and is responsible for the management and implementation of projects for large-scale oil, mining, energy and industrial projects. His areas of expertise include environmental economics and Due Diligence Phase I and Phase II in environmental studies. With his 10 years of experience as an environmental engineer, Engr. Ribadeneira has extensive knowledge of multivariate statistics, non-parametric statistics and scientific research on biological, ecological, phylogenetic and molecular topics. Additionally, Engr. Ribadeneira has developed several methodologies for analyzing environmental impacts, processes for valuing ecological resources and services, and procedures for environmental remediation.

Environmental Engineer
Master’s in Occupational Safety and Health

Adriana Jaramillo is an Environmental Engineer with a specialization in oil and gas production, and a Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety. She has more than 9 years of experience in environmental consulting services and projects that include socio-environmental characterizations for the development of environmental impact studies and environmental audits, environmental validations and third party reports, including in areas affected by damages and spills. Her knowledge of Ecuador is extensive, particularly in the regions of the coast and in the Amazon.

Marine Biologist
Master in Oceanology with specialization in Environmental Management and Coastal Areas

Alejandra Maz Courrau is the Project Manager of Cardno Entrix Colombia SAS, and has 11 years of experience in environmental management and consulting in obtaining environmental licenses, developing large projects in Colombia. Alejandra has led and participated in Environmental Impact Studies, Environmental Management Plans, Environmental Diagnostics of Alternatives, Due Diligence, among others, for the hydrocarbons, mining, and infrastructure sectors. She has also developed marine ecotoxicology projects, and published two articles in international journals (Water, Air, & Soil Pollution Journal and Bull Environ Contam Toxicol). As a Marine Biologist, Alejandra is a specialist in the analysis and interpretation of marine physical-biotic data, vulnerability analysis, and the analysis of bioaccumulation and biomagnifcation of heavy metals in the food chain.

Sociologist with a concentration in International Relations and Mediation and Conflict Resolution

Salomé Maldonado has more than 6 years of experience in the strategic rethinking of social programs, the creation of support networks, relationship building between communities and companies under the “good neighbor” guidelines, and in the implementation of productive and sustainable development projects. In Cardno Latin America, Ms. Maldonado coordinates, designs, plans and executes processes to collect socio-economic information for socio-environmental studies, develops methodology for social engagement and participation, and elaborates community relations plans, with extensive experience in the analysis of the social reality in which the projects exist. She holds a Social Sciences degree with a concentration in International Relations and in Mediation and Conflict Resolution from the Catholic University of Ecuador. Currently, Ms. Maldonado is pursuing a Master's Degree in Social Responsibility and Corporate Sustainability in Bogotá, Colombia.

B.A. in Communication
Master’s in Development Practice with a concentration in
Sustainable Livelihoods and Environments and Human Rights

Melanie Alemán has more than 4 years of professional experience in sustainability, environmental conservation, and community development in Indonesia, Guatemala, Ecuador and the United States, with experience in designing and coordinating programs and initiatives at the community level through the Peace Corps, the Emory University Office of Sustainability, and international NGOs including the Rainforest Alliance and The Nature Conservancy. As Project Technician in the social area of Cardno Latin America, Ms. Alemán focuses on sustainable development, community and governmental relations, formulating strategic alliances in the planning and implementation of socio-environmental and corporate responsibility projects, with extensive experience in research, communication and public relations. She earned her Master’s in Development Practice from Emory University in Atlanta, specializing in sustainable livelihoods and environments and human rights.


Nina León has experience in the elaboration of reports of the social component in Environmental Impact Studies and in audits, by means of the adequate information gathering in the field and bibliographic research techniques. Since August 2016, Nina has been supporting Cardno's services in the social area, handling surveys, statistics, and general data processing through CSPRO and SPSS. 

Biologist specialized in Flora

Gabriela Cruz has a degree in Biological Sciences, specializing in flora of Ecuador. She is a Biologist and is currently a Project Technician with 8 years of experience in the development of Environmental Impact Studies, Environmental Management Plans, Audits, Environmental Monitoring and consultancy for companies in the hydrocarbon, mining, energy, among other sectors. In addition, Gabriela has extensive experience in coordinating biotic teams, preparing technical and economic proposals, preparing results reports, and obtaining research permits for various projects, and rescue and revegetation activities in intervened areas.

Geographical and Environmental Engineer

Elizabeth Ganchala is a Geographer and Environmental Engineer with more than 4 years of professional experience. Currently, Elizabeth is project technician in Cardno’s area of Cartography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), where she participates in Land Use Studies through Remote Sensing, and supports the development of Environmental Impact Studies, Environmental Audits, Environmental Site Assessments and Environmental Monitoring for projects of the mining sector, hydrocarbons, electrical and industrial. Additionally, she has been part of social participation processes and land survey projects for the construction and updating of the rural cadaster of Ecuador.

Environmental Engineer
Master’s in Occupational Health and Safety

Alejandro Duque is an Environmental Engineer, and holds a Master's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety. Alejandro is a professional with 6 years of experience in the environmental area and 4 years of experience in the area of industrial safety. He has developed projects for public and private companies in Ecuador and in the Dominican Republic. In addition to conducting Environmental Studies, his areas of expertise are the identification and removal of environmental liabilities or pollution sources, and Environmental Assessments of Site Phase I and Phase II (according to ASTM standards). Alejandro is also responsible of the Occupational Health and Safety in Cardno Latin America.

Environmental Engineer

Andrés Izurieta is an Environmental Engineer with 4 years of experience in environmental project management (design, implementation, operation and monitoring), such as integrated waste management, systems and measures to control environmental liabilities and impacts. Additionally, he has 4 years of experience in environmental consulting in an array of industries, in the direction of ISO / OHSAS internal management systems, in environmental management, environmental legislation, personnel management, budget preparation and execution, especially in the oil and manufacturing sector. Andrés has carried out Environmental Impact Studies, Identification of Liabilities, Environmental Management Plans, Environmental Site Assessments (EAS), Phase I and Phase II (under ASTM standards), Forest Inventory Analysis and Economic Valuation of ecosystem goods and services caused by the removal of native vegetation, among other projects.

Environmental Engineer, specialized in Prevention and Remediation

Francisco Carrasco is an Environmental Engineer with 5 years of experience in the execution of Environmental Impact Studies, Environmental Audits, Environmental Validations, Passive Litigation, Environmental Management Plans, Environmental Assessments of Phase I and Phase II Site for Hydrocarbons, Mining and Electricity Projects. Francisco has also carried out Third Party Monitoring and Contingency Plans.

Environmental Engineer

Gina Viera is an Environmental Engineer and is currently in the process of completing a Master's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health. She has 3 years of experience in the environmental area with the execution of Environmental Impact Studies, Environmental Audits, Environmental Site Assessments, Alternative Analysis, and Environmental Monitoring of the physical component for hydrocarbons, mining and electricity projects. In the area of industrial safety, Gina has developed emergency plans, execution of security inspections, and currently participates in the implementation of the integrated management system of Cardno Latin America. Gina has also completed Internal audit courses for ISO 9001: 2008 and ISO 14001: 2004.

Environmental Engineer with Master’s in Territorial Planning and Environmental Management

Angel Collado holds a Master's Degree in Territorial Planning and Environmental Management from the University of Barcelona and a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences from the Autonomous University of Madrid. Angel has more than 3 years of experience in the development of Environmental Compliance Audits, Environmental Impact Studies, Hazardous Waste Management, Environmental Monitoring, Environmental Assessment, consulting in Sustainable Urban Development. Since 2008, Angel worked as a wine production technician supporting in product development and environmental management. In 2013, he developed plans for ecosystem restoration and conversion strategies for organic viticulture, and also was a WWF volunteer in reforestation activities, invasive species removal, and population censuses in 2014.

Civil Engineer

Danny Sánchez has more than 5 years of experience in the Inspection, Programming and Control in Cardno Latin America. Mr. Sánchez is the link between the technical projects area and the accounting area. Additionally, he is in charge of hour control and scheduling of technical staff; inspection sheets; field engineering support; and the initiation and closure of hydroelectric, hydrocarbon, and urban development projects. The most prominent in which he has participated are: Baba 42MW Project, Blower 486 MW, Minas San Francisco 275 MW, Dudas Mazar, Angamara Sinde, and Toachi Pilatón 270MW (2011 to date).
