Miguel Alemán is the General Manager and Technical Director of Cardno Latinoamérica in Quito, the regional office for Latin America and the Caribbean since 2001. With more than 31 years of experience, Engr. Alemán has led and participated in more than 200 environmental projects, including studies and the provision of socio-environmental services such as monitoring, socio-environmental consulting and project management in the oil and gas, industry, mining, irrigation, energy and urban infrastructure sectors, and has published several technical documents for a series of seminars and symposiums at the national and international level. In 2008 and 2009, he received the "Bizz Award" and the "Summit of Success" medal – recognizing his leadership in Business Management by the World Confederation of Businesses. Today, he is a Registered Professional Engineer practicing in Ecuador and Peru.

Civil Engineer specialized in Structures

Tarquino Caballero is a Civil Engineer specialized in structures, with 35 years of experience in the area of engineering, building construction, industrial plants, aqueducts, gas and oil pipelines, water treatment plants and transmission lines for electricity and communication. As the Director of the Energy and Urban Development at Cardno Engineering, Engr. Caballero is in charge of planning, coordinating, supporting, monitoring and evaluating projects in the fields of hydroelectric power, hydrocarbons, and urban development. The most important projects in which he has participated include: The Design and Construction of the Heavy Crude Oil Pipeline-OCP (2001-2005); Gas Separation Plant GOSP-3; HARADH - Saudi Arabia (2006); and the Khursaniyah Downstream and Upstream Pipelines, Saudi Arabia (2007); and the coordination of hydroelectric projects such as Baba 42MW, Ocaña 26MW, Sopladora 486MW, Minas San Francisco 275MW and Toachi Pilatón 270 MW (2008 to date).

Geographical and Environmental Engineer

María del Pilar Herrera has 13 years of experience in the provision of environmental consulting services and in the execution of projects in the hydrocarbon, mining, electrical and industrial sectors. Engr. Herrera is a specialist in the design and implementation of graphic and alphanumeric databases for the management of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), as well as in the generation of base and thematic cartography, the interpretation of satellite images and aerial photography, topographic surveys, and the implementation of Response Planning Systems for Oil Spills based on GIS systems.

Economist

Gustavo Rodríguez is an economist with more than 25 years of experience in research and consulting in the social, economic and environmental spheres, and is a specialist in the analysis, management and resolution of socio-environmental conflicts, negotiations, and community management in the context of social responsibility. In these areas he has developed several studies and projects of research and development in urban and rural areas, and has carried out social perception studies and stakeholder mapping and engagement processes, particularly in the Amazon region. Apart from his extensive work in the private sector, Mr. Rodriguez has also collaborated with universities in North Carolina, Tulane and Washington University, as well as with national institutions such as CEPAR and ECOCIENCIA.

Environmental Engineer and Biologist

Santiago Ribadeneira coordinates multidisciplinary teams of technicians, and is responsible for the management and implementation of projects for large-scale oil, mining, energy and industrial projects. His areas of expertise include environmental economics and Due Diligence Phase I and Phase II in environmental studies. With his 10 years of experience as an environmental engineer, Engr. Ribadeneira has extensive knowledge of multivariate statistics, non-parametric statistics and scientific research on biological, ecological, phylogenetic and molecular topics. Additionally, Engr. Ribadeneira has developed several methodologies for analyzing environmental impacts, processes for valuing ecological resources and services, and procedures for environmental remediation.

Adriana Jaramillo is an Environmental Engineer with a specialization in oil and gas production, and a Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety. She has more than 9 years of experience in environmental consulting services and projects that include socio-environmental characterizations for the development of environmental impact studies and environmental audits, environmental validations and third party reports, including in areas affected by damages and spills. Her knowledge of Ecuador is extensive, particularly in the regions of the coast and in the Amazon.

Master in Oceanology with specialization in Environmental Management and Coastal Areas

Alejandra Maz Courrau is the Project Manager of Cardno Entrix Colombia SAS, and has 11 years of experience in environmental management and consulting in obtaining environmental licenses, developing large projects in Colombia. Alejandra has led and participated in Environmental Impact Studies, Environmental Management Plans, Environmental Diagnostics of Alternatives, Due Diligence, among others, for the hydrocarbons, mining, and infrastructure sectors. She has also developed marine ecotoxicology projects, and published two articles in international journals (Water, Air, & Soil Pollution Journal and Bull Environ Contam Toxicol). As a Marine Biologist, Alejandra is a specialist in the analysis and interpretation of marine physical-biotic data, vulnerability analysis, and the analysis of bioaccumulation and biomagnifcation of heavy metals in the food chain.

Abdel Arroyo is the Project Manager of Cardno in Peru, who has more than 25 years of experience in Mining and Environmental Consulting in various sectors. He is an expert in mining exploitation, development of mining projects, environmental studies and mine closure plans. Eng. Arroyo is a Mining Engineer from the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM), with a Master's Degree in Mines, Mining and Environment Engineering from UNI and a Master's Degree in Geology and Geotechnics (UNMSM), and a Doctorate in Environment and Development Sustainable (UNFV). Additionally, Mr. Arroyo is an Associate University Professor of Pre- and Post-Graduate Studies at UNMSM.

Paola Pascual Vega is the Project Coordinator of Cardno in Peru, and has more than 8 years of experience in environmental consulting in the mining, energy and industrial sectors. Paola is an expert in the preparation of environmental studies (EIA, EIASd, DIA, ITS, Comprehensive Plans of Adaptation of ECAs and LMP for water) and mine closure plans. She also has experience advising on Environmental Inspection for OEFA and in the implementation of citizen participation workshops. Paola is an Environmental Engineer from the National University Federico Villarreal of Peru, with a diploma in Safety, Occupational Health and Environment from the University of Central Peru.

Sociologist with a concentration in International Relations and Mediation and Conflict Resolution

Salomé Maldonado has more than 6 years of experience in the strategic rethinking of social programs, the creation of support networks, relationship building between communities and companies under the “good neighbor” guidelines, and in the implementation of productive and sustainable development projects. In Cardno Latin America, Ms. Maldonado coordinates, designs, plans and executes processes to collect socio-economic information for socio-environmental studies, develops methodology for social engagement and participation, and elaborates community relations plans, with extensive experience in the analysis of the social reality in which the projects exist. She holds a Social Sciences degree with a concentration in International Relations and in Mediation and Conflict Resolution from the Catholic University of Ecuador. Currently, Ms. Maldonado is pursuing a Master's Degree in Social Responsibility and Corporate Sustainability in Bogotá, Colombia.

Melanie Alemán has more than 4 years of professional experience in sustainability, environmental conservation, and community development in Indonesia, Guatemala, Ecuador and the United States, with experience in designing and coordinating programs and initiatives at the community level through the Peace Corps, the Emory University Office of Sustainability, and international NGOs including the Rainforest Alliance and The Nature Conservancy. As Project Technician in the social area of Cardno Latin America, Ms. Alemán focuses on sustainable development, community and governmental relations, formulating strategic alliances in the planning and implementation of socio-environmental and corporate responsibility projects, with extensive experience in research, communication and public relations. She earned her Master’s in Development Practice from Emory University in Atlanta, specializing in sustainable livelihoods and environments and human rights.

Nina León has experience in the elaboration of reports of the social component in Environmental Impact Studies and in audits, by means of the adequate information gathering in the field and bibliographic research techniques. Since August 2016, Nina has been supporting Cardno's services in the social area, handling surveys, statistics, and general data processing through CSPRO and SPSS.

Anthropologist with a concentration in archaeology
Master’s in Andean Archeology (c)

Ana Belén Zambrano has a master's degree in Andean Archeology (c), and has 12 years of experience in anthropology and archeology. She has also worked in human rights for children in the communities of the central and northern highlands of Ecuador. In addition, Ana Belén has experience identifying cultural heritage areas and in the analysis of sensitive aspects within Ecuadorian territories, and rural and indigenous populations. As an archaeologist registered by the INPC, she has conducted reconnaissance activities and surveys, and created archaeological records for environmental impact studies and environmental management plans in northwestern Ecuador for more than 5 years. As a project technician in Cardno ENTRIX, Ana Belén collaborates in the social component, focusing on archeology and anthropology, she coordinates and executes archaeological activities for projects of reconnaissance, prospecting, monitoring and/or archaeological rescue. These activities include fieldwork, and the subsequent analysis and cataloging of tangible and intangible heritage assets.

Master in Biology for Conservation

Pablo Salvador is a biologist, specialist in herpetofauna, with more than 16 years of experience in environmental projects and consulting for hydrocarbon and mining companies. With Cardno Latin America, Pablo leads biotic monitoring projects for flora and fauna in various parts of the region. Pablo has a master's degree in Conservation Biology, focused on the management and preservation of biodiversity. In addition, he has worked on monitoring revegetation on rehabilitated platforms, rescue and relocation plans for biotic species, bio indicator monitoring, Environmental Impact Studies and management plans, among other projects.

David LaTorre is a project technician specialized in biology in Cardno Latin America, working from the offices of Peru. David has over 9 years of experience in environmental consulting in the mining, energy and industrial sectors, and has conducted multiple studies such as: evaluation of revegetated areas, compensation plans, reports of migration routes of wildlife species, reports of fragmentation of habitats, among others. David is a biologist at the National University of Peruvian Amazonia (UNAP), with a Master's in Environmental Management from the National University Federico Villareal (UNFV) and a Diploma in Environmental Management and Environmental Impact Assessment from the National University Federico Villareal (UNFV).

Silvia Jami is a biologist with a specialty in Ecuadorian flora. Silvia is project technician for the biotic component with 9 years of experience in the development of Environmental Impact Studies, Environmental Management Plans, environmental audits, biotic monitoring, environmental validation and consulting for companies in the hydrocarbon, mining, and energy sectors.  As a project technician, Silvia coordinates biotic teams, nursery management, flora rescue activities and revegetation of intervened areas. In addition, she has worked on research projects such as: "Use of the Plants in Four Indigenous Lowland Amazonian Cultures in the Northeast of Ecuador: Kichwa, Waorani, Siona, Secoya and Shuar" for the Ecuadendron Botanical Corporation; "Tropical Canopy Spectrometry: for CONDESAN; and "Methodology for the identification contamination in vegetation from hydrocarbons through the generation of spectral spatial technologies and spectroscopy of images" for the Ecuadorian Space Institute with the financing of the SENESCYT.

Marcela Mejia is a biologist specialized in aquatic macroinvertebrates, with 7 years of experience in the provision of environmental consulting and participation in projects for companies in the hydrocarbon, mining, telecommunications, electrical and other sectors. Marcela works on Environmental Impact Studies projects, management plans, audits, environmental records, environmental reports, rehabilitation of areas, biotic monitoring, rescue monitoring, studies of cumulative impacts, and in the coordination of biotic teams.

Gabriela Cruz has a degree in Biological Sciences, specializing in flora of Ecuador. As project technician, Katherine coordinates biotic teams for environmental monitoring activities, and for the rescue and relocation of biotic species.

Erika Enriquez has a degree in Biological and Environmental Sciences, and has 4 years of professional experienced focused on the entomofauna component for environmental consulting projects for mining, oil, timber and telecommunications projects. Also, Erika has been part of environmental projects such as: Legal Advice in the Environmental Area and Due Diligence for the Purchase of the Sopladora Hydroelectric Project for the Chinese company International Water & Electric Corp, was part of the technical team of the SATVEC-Dengue project for the Izquieta Pérez National Institute; and has participated in conservation and species management plans.

Mireya Mosquera is a project technician working on cartography and GIS in the offices of Quito, Ecuador since 2013. Mireya has participated in several projects in different sectors, but particularly within the hydrocarbon and mining areas. Due to her multidisciplinary training, Mireya works in both, the cartography and environmental spheres, conducting activities that include: remote sensor data, digital image analysis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), natural resources, analysis of water, soil and air pollution, evaluation of environmental impacts, photointerpretation, and spatial analysis and territory zoning, among others.

Elizabeth Ganchala is a Geographer and Environmental Engineer with more than 4 years of professional experience. Currently, Elizabeth is project technician in Cardno’s area of Cartography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), where she participates in Land Use Studies through Remote Sensing, and supports the development of Environmental Impact Studies, Environmental Audits, Environmental Site Assessments and Environmental Monitoring for projects of the mining sector, hydrocarbons, electrical and industrial. Additionally, she has been part of social participation processes and land survey projects for the construction and updating of the rural cadaster of Ecuador.

Andrés Izurieta is an Environmental Engineer with 4 years of experience in environmental project management (design, implementation, operation and monitoring), such as integrated waste management, systems and measures to control environmental liabilities and impacts. Additionally, he has 4 years of experience in environmental consulting in an array of industries, in the direction of ISO / OHSAS internal management systems, in environmental management, environmental legislation, personnel management, budget preparation and execution, especially in the oil and manufacturing sector. Andrés has carried out Environmental Impact Studies, Identification of Liabilities, Environmental Management Plans, Environmental Site Assessments (EAS), Phase I and Phase II (under ASTM standards), Forest Inventory Analysis and Economic Valuation of ecosystem goods and services caused by the removal of native vegetation, among other projects.

Gina Viera is an Environmental Engineer and is currently in the process of completing a Master's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health. She has 3 years of experience in the environmental area with the execution of Environmental Impact Studies, Environmental Audits, Environmental Site Assessments, Alternative Analysis, and Environmental Monitoring of the physical component for hydrocarbons, mining and electricity projects. In the area of industrial safety, Gina has developed emergency plans, execution of security inspections, and currently participates in the implementation of the integrated management system of Cardno Latin America. Gina has also completed Internal audit courses for ISO 9001: 2008 and ISO 14001: 2004.

Danny Sánchez has more than 5 years of experience in the Inspection, Programming and Control in Cardno Latin America. Mr. Sánchez is the link between the technical projects area and the accounting area. Additionally, he is in charge of hour control and scheduling of technical staff; inspection sheets; field engineering support; and the initiation and closure of hydroelectric, hydrocarbon, and urban development projects. The most prominent in which he has participated are: Baba 42MW Project, Blower 486 MW, Minas San Francisco 275 MW, Dudas Mazar, Angamara Sinde, and Toachi Pilatón 270MW (2011 to date).

Sofia Arias is an environmental engineer with more than 5 years of experience in the provision of environmental consulting services. Sofia has coordinated and participated in several projects in the electricity sector (environmental audits, environmental impact studies, environmental records and environmental audits), the hydrocarbon sector (environmental remediation in service stations) and the industrial sector (audits and environmental studies). In addition, she is part of the proposal development team in Cardno Latin America, based in Quito.

Bernardo Castedo has more than 5 years of experience carrying out forest inventories and censuses, economic valuations due to the loss of native vegetation cover, and supporting in the rescue of flora species, revegetation and reforestation projects, and the generation of base and thematic cartography using GIS for Environmental Studies for the private and public companies working in oil, mining, electrical and industrial sectors in Ecuador. Bernardo also has more than 5 years of experience in the cultivation of bees, extraction and commercialization of honey and propolis, forest exploitation, studies of wood yield, control and dispatch of wood, biophysical diagnostics and assessment of watershed aptitude, micro propagation and in vitro conservation of forest genetic resources, and nursery management for private companies in the forestry and industrial sector of Bolivia.

In addition, Carlos has completed the internal auditing course for ISO 14001: 2004.

Andrey Gallegos has more than 4 years of experience and leadership in remediation and environmental development projects in the oil sector in the Amazon region of Ecuador and Peru. Andrey has extensive knowledge in the application of international standards such as ISO 17025: 2017, OSHAS and ASTM both at the laboratory level and in environmental quality assessment and monitoring in the field. As a Project Technician at Cardno, Andrey contributes in the planning, design, operation and execution of socio-environmental impact studies in all types of industries. He complemented his postgraduate studies at The Australian National University, offering practical approaches to solve complex environmental problems, backed by scientific theories and collaborative consultations.

Mónica Cerón Vásquez is an environmental engineer with more than a year of experience in the execution of Environmental Impact Studies, Environmental Audits, Environmental Assessments, in the physical component, for hydrocarbon, mining, electrical and industrial projects. Additionally, she has more than 3 years of experience in scientific research, management, treatment and disposal of waste, biosecurity, environmental impact assessment in wastewater treatment and environmental management plans. Monica has also completed Internal Auditing courses for ISO 14001: 2004, ISO 14001: 2015 and course for Environmental Compliance Auditing in the Phases of the Hydrocarbon Sector.

Franklin Taco has marked his career at Cardno Entrix since 2002, and has more than 16 years of experience. His strengths lie in conducting Environmental Studies and supporting the physical component that include activities like soil drilling with manual and mechanical drilling, sediment and brightness sampling, surface and groundwater sampling, magnetic and electromagnetic field measurements, noise and radiation measurements non-ionizing, environmental monitoring in the exploration and exploitation phases of mining and hydrocarbon operations, technical support for air quality and atmospheric emissions monitoring, archaeological monitoring, information gathering for the socioeconomic component, manging equipment for measuring Ph, conductivity, turbidity and SDT, elaborating technical and economic proposals, managing differential GPS TRIMBLE NOMAD 900 GLC, Ecodril and TELLUS,operator for SUE activities, and specialized equipment management for meteorological stations.

Jorge Vásquez has marked his career in Cardno Entrix since 2010, and has more than 8 years of experience. Among his strengths are the activities for the physical component of Environmental Studies that include soil drilling with manual and mechanical drilling (ECODRILL) for the installation of piezometers and monitoring, operation wells and all equipment function for Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), sediment sampling, surface and groundwater sampling, noise measurements (3M sound level meter and SIRRUS), information gathering for the socioeconomic component, handling of measuring equipment for PH, conductivity, turbidity and SDT , electromagnetic fields, differential GPS management, and the handling of equipment at meteorological stations, among others, for monitoring and environmental studies, in particular for the exploration and exploitation phase in mining and hydrocarbon operations.

Heidi Cruzado is a project assistant in Cardno Latin America, located in the Peru offices, and has more than 4 years of experience in environmental consulting in the mining and industrial sector, in the preparation of environmental studies (EIA, EIASd, DIA, ITS and Report of Identification of contaminated sites), and mining regulation. Heidi has been assisting in the preparation of studies since the formulation of the baseline, to the presentation and approval process from the competent authority. Heidi is an Environmental Engineer from the National University of Trujillo (UNT), with a Diploma in Integrated Management Systems in Quality, Safety, Occupational Health and Environment from the Post Graduate School of UNT.

Adrián Yépez G. is a Geographical and Environmental Engineer and works as a Project Assistant in Cartography and Geographic Information Systems of Cardno Latin America, conducting various cartographic activities using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), photointerpretation and digital image analysis. Adrián has collaborated in the preparation of Environmental Impact Studies, Environmental Site Studies (EAS), Environmental Audits and Third-Party Monitoring in projects in different sectors, but primarily in mining. In addition, he has been part of social participation processes and provided support as a field technician in soil and sediment sampling, surface water sampling, and groundwater and noise monitoring.

Gabriela Lara is an Environmental Engineer, graduated from the International SEK University, with experience in environmental consulting and in the execution of Environmental Impact Assessments, Due Diligence Studies, Environmental Audits, Liability Surveys, Environmental Management Plans, Environmental Registries, among other activities. Since November 2017, Gabriela has worked at Cardno Latin America as a Project Assistant and has supported the coordination of socioenvironmental projects conducted in Ecuador, Peru and Colombia. In addition, she is part of Cardno Latin America's proposal department in Quito and has supported the implementation of the company's Internal Management System.

Cristina Pantoja is an Environmental Engineer with 3 years of experience in environmental management and support in the development of environmental projects, specifically related to the execution of Environmental Impact Studies and Environmental Management Plans for the industrial and electrical sectors. Cristina has also performed Environmental Compliance Audits for the industrial sector, Environmental Compliance Reports, Environmental Registries and Environmental Management Plans, has supported the preparation of technical and economic proposals, and has provided recommendations to industrial sector clients on compliance with environmental legislation, monitoring of internal management systems of, both, industrial safety and environment, as well as the preparation and execution of budgets.

Environmental Engineer

Salomé Azanza is in the process of graduating as an Environmental Engineer. Salome has one year of experience as an intern in the Quito offices, and has worked specifically in an environmental remediation project of 16 gasoline service stations. Since October 2017, she has worked as a Project Assistant at Cardno Latin America, collaborating in the development of socio-environmental studies.
